How It Works

Do heat pumps actually need to be inspected?

Yes. An inspection catches refrigerant issues, airflow problems, and electrical wear before they cause a full breakdown. It also confirms whether the system is still running at its rated efficiency, which directly affects your energy bills.

Does an inspection mean the heat pump needs to be replaced?

Not at all. An inspection often reveals a small repair or a maintenance issue that extends the system’s life. Replacement is only recommended when specific components, compressor, reversing valve, coils, show failure that makes repair uneconomical.

Why is the heat pump running but the house still isn’t comfortable?

Weak airflow, an off refrigerant charge, a sticking reversing valve, or a miscalibrated thermostat can all cause this. An inspection measures each of these separately so the actual cause is identified, not guessed.

What happens if I delay getting the system checked?

A low refrigerant charge left unaddressed forces the compressor to work harder, which can cause permanent compressor damage, the most expensive single repair on a heat pump. Catching it early through an inspection avoids that outcome.

What does the inspection actually cover?

The outdoor unit, indoor air handler, coils, filters, thermostat, electrical connections, refrigerant pressure, temperature split, and reversing valve operation. Each item is documented with a specific finding, not a general pass or fail.
